Striped Bass

If you're chasing striped bass in northern Alabama, Paint Rock offers access to some fantastic fishing in the Tennessee River system. Specifically, consider targeting the tailwaters below Guntersville Dam. These areas are known for strong currents that concentrate baitfish and, consequently, stripers. Spring and fall are prime times, coinciding with the striper's migratory patterns. During the spring spawning run, fish move upstream, and the fall sees them fattening up for winter. For bank access, try the areas near the dam itself, but be mindful of posted restrictions and water release schedules. Boaters can launch at several public ramps in the area, providing access to a wider range of fishing spots. Local anglers often have success trolling with large crankbaits or live shad. Be prepared for some good-sized fish; the Tennessee River is known for producing hefty stripers.
