Striped Bass

While not a primary striped bass destination, the possibility of encountering these fish exists in the Clifton area, particularly in the San Francisco River if any upstream impoundments containing stripers experience releases. Striped bass are not native and their presence would be based on stocking programs in other areas. If targeting them, focus on the cooler months, from fall through early spring, when water temperatures are lower. Large swimbaits or crankbaits that imitate shad are good lure choices. If present, striped bass will often congregate near deeper holes or areas with current. Access to the river can be challenging, so be prepared to hike or use a boat. Given the potential for lower striper numbers compared to dedicated striper fisheries, consider it a bonus if you encounter one while fishing for other species. Always check local regulations to confirm if striped bass are present and if there are any specific rules or restrictions.
