If you're targeting striped bass near Mount Carmel, Tennessee, Cherokee Lake is your prime destination. This reservoir, formed by the Holston River, offers excellent striper habitat thanks to its deep, cool waters and abundant forage. The best time to chase these hard-fighting fish is during the spring and fall when water temperatures are moderate and the stripers are actively feeding. Look for them near the dam during the warmer months, where cooler water is released. In the spring and fall, they'll often move shallower to chase baitfish. A local tip: pay attention to TVA's generation schedule for Cherokee Dam; periods of heavy generation can create strong currents that concentrate stripers. You can access the lake from several public boat ramps around the lake, including the Cherokee Park ramp. The stripers in Cherokee Lake are known for their size, so be prepared for a battle!
