The key is the proximity to Aransas Bay and its connecting waterways. Tarpon frequent these waters during the warmer months, typically from late spring through summer, following schools of baitfish. Focus your efforts around the Aransas Pass, where tarpon often stage before moving into the bay. A great tactic is to drift live mullet or crabs in these areas, paying close attention to current lines and structure. Access to these areas is best by boat, launching from Bayside. A local tip: early morning or late evening are typically the most productive times. While the tarpon here might not be as plentiful as in Florida, the chance to hook one in this less-pressured environment is a rewarding experience. Remember to use heavy tackle and circle hooks for a better hookup ratio and fish conservation.
