Tautog fishing in this area is best in the spring and fall when water temperatures are moderate, and the fish are actively feeding before and after the extreme summer heat. A key to success is understanding the local forage – crabs, clams, and mussels are their favorites. Present your bait as naturally as possible, right on the bottom. Be prepared to adjust your depth frequently based on the tide and current, as tautog are notoriously picky about where they hold.
