Walleye

While Bannockburn isn't exactly known as a walleye hotspot, don't count it out entirely, especially if you're willing to travel slightly. The Des Plaines River, a short drive west, offers pockets where walleye can be found, particularly during the spring spawning run and again in the fall as water temperatures cool. Look for them around deeper holes, current breaks, and near submerged structure like fallen trees or bridge pilings. The Fox River, further west, is another worthwhile option. Focus your efforts during the early morning or late evening hours when walleye are most active. A jig tipped with a minnow or nightcrawler is a classic and effective presentation. For shore access on the Des Plaines, try areas near Ryerson Woods or along the Des Plaines River Trail. Be aware that river conditions can change rapidly, so always check water levels and flow rates before heading out. Remember to consult the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for current regulations and creel limits.
