Walleye fishing near Bedford Park requires a bit of dedication, but the Des Plaines River does hold a population of these prized fish. Your best bet is to concentrate on areas with deeper pools and current breaks, especially near dams or bridge pilings. Walleye are light-sensitive, so dawn and dusk are prime times, as well as overcast days. Spring (late March-April) during the spawn and fall (October-November) as they feed up for winter are the most productive seasons. Jigging minnows or using crankbaits that dive deep are effective techniques. Access can be found at various forest preserve access points along the Des Plaines River. A local tip: Walleye fishing can be slow, so be patient and persistent. Trolling slowly upstream can also be a good way to cover water and locate fish. The walleye in this area tend to be on the smaller side, but catching one is still a notable achievement.
