Walleye fishing near Hanover Park requires a bit of travel, but the effort can be rewarding. While not directly within Hanover Park, the Fox River, a short drive away, holds a decent population of walleye. Spring and fall are prime times, with the post-spawn period in April-May and the pre-winter feeding frenzy in October-November offering the best opportunities. Target areas with current breaks, deeper holes, and rocky structure. A key tactic is fishing jigs tipped with minnows or nightcrawlers near the bottom. Be aware that the Fox River can experience fluctuating water levels, so check conditions before heading out. Consider launching a small boat or kayak from one of the public access points along the river to cover more ground. The walleye here aren't known for their size, but catching a few keepers for a fish fry is definitely possible with the right approach.
