Walleye

While Frohna isn't necessarily known as a walleye mecca, resourceful anglers can find them in the nearby larger reservoirs and rivers of Southeast Missouri. The Mississippi River, though challenging, holds populations of walleye that move in and out of the tributaries. Also consider heading west towards larger impoundments like Lake Wappapello or Clearwater Lake, both within reasonable driving distance. Spring and fall are prime times to target walleye as they move into shallower water to spawn or feed before winter. Try trolling crankbaits or jigs tipped with minnows along rocky points and submerged structure. Local tip: river walleye can be heavily pressured, so consider fishing during weekdays or off-peak hours. Also, pay close attention to river levels and clarity, as walleye prefer slightly stained water.
