If you're chasing walleye in the Morrison, Missouri area, the Missouri River is your prime target. While not known as a walleye mecca, the "Big Muddy" holds some decent populations, particularly in the tailwaters below dams and around wing dikes. Spring and fall are the peak seasons, as walleye move into shallower water to spawn or feed aggressively before winter. Trolling crankbaits along the channel edges or jigging near structure are effective techniques. A local tip: pay close attention to water clarity. After heavy rains, the river can become extremely turbid, pushing walleye into clearer backwaters or tributaries. Focus your efforts around the mouths of these clearer inflows. Also, be aware of commercial traffic and strong currents, especially when fishing from a boat.
