Targeting walleye near New Franklin requires venturing to the larger reservoirs associated with the Missouri River. Look to the impoundments further upstream, such as those up near Glasgow, MO. These waters are known to hold decent populations of walleye. Spring and fall are the prime times, with the pre-spawn and post-spawn periods being particularly productive. Focus on areas with rocky structure, submerged timber, and points extending into the main lake. A local tip: Trolling crankbaits along drop-offs or jigging near the dam can be effective. Pay attention to current conditions and water clarity, as walleye tend to prefer slightly stained water. While trophy-sized walleye are uncommon, you can often find good numbers of smaller fish.
