Walleye

While not as well-known as other Missouri walleye hotspots, the smaller lakes and rivers around Shoal Creek Drive can provide surprisingly good walleye fishing. Focus your efforts on areas with rocky bottoms, submerged structure, and current breaks. Spring and fall are the best times to target walleye, as they move into shallower water to spawn in the spring and feed heavily in the fall. For shore anglers, look for areas with easy access to the water and plenty of structure. Boating anglers can explore a wider range of locations and target walleye in deeper water. A local tip: Try fishing at night, especially during the warmer months. Walleye are often more active under the cover of darkness. Jigs tipped with minnows or nightcrawlers are effective baits. The walleye in this region may not be as large as those found in bigger reservoirs, but they are still a rewarding catch for any angler.
