Walleye

Walleye anglers visiting Tightwad, Missouri, will find Truman Lake to be their primary target. While not as famous as some walleye fisheries, Truman offers a solid population of these tasty fish. The best time to target them is during the spring spawning run when they move into shallower areas near the dam and tributary arms. Trolling crankbaits or jigs tipped with minnows along these areas can be highly effective. As the water warms, walleye move deeper, so switch to trolling deeper diving lures or using bottom-bouncing techniques. A key to success on Truman is understanding the thermocline, which forms in the summer. Walleye will often suspend just above it. Be sure to check water temperature reports before you go. Also, access to the lake is readily available through numerous boat ramps around the lake.
