While Oregon isn't typically known as a walleye destination, Lakeside offers a unique opportunity to target these fish in a coastal setting. Tenmile Lakes, a series of interconnected freshwater lakes near Lakeside, is the key. These lakes, connected to the ocean via a tidal channel, offer a diverse habitat that supports a surprisingly healthy walleye population. Spring and early summer are prime times, as the walleye move into shallower areas to spawn. Focus on areas with submerged timber or weed beds. Trolling crankbaits or casting jigs are both effective techniques. Be aware that Tenmile Lakes can be windy, so check the forecast before heading out. The Lakeside County Park offers good boat launch facilities. The walleye here tend to be on the smaller side compared to those in the Midwest, but a dedicated effort can yield some tasty fish.
