Walleye

While not typically known as a walleye hotspot, the Chehalis area does offer some limited opportunities to target these fish in the larger rivers and impoundments. Walleye are not native to this region, so their presence is often the result of stocking efforts or migration from other systems. The best time to target walleye near Chehalis is during the spring and fall, when water temperatures are cooler and the fish are more active. Focus on areas with current breaks, submerged structure, and rocky bottoms. Jigs tipped with nightcrawlers or minnows are effective baits, as are crankbaits trolled along drop-offs. Access to the rivers can be challenging, but some boat ramps are available. Given that walleye populations are not as robust here as in other parts of the state, it's crucial to practice responsible fishing and adhere to all regulations to help maintain the fishery.
