Walleye

Moxee, Washington, offers surprisingly good walleye fishing within a reasonable drive. While not a renowned walleye destination, the Columbia River, particularly stretches accessible within an hour or so, holds some decent populations. Look into the areas around the Tri-Cities (Richland, Pasco, Kennewick) for boat launches and shore access. Spring and fall are your best bets, as walleye are more active in cooler water temperatures. Focus on areas with current breaks, structure, and depth changes. Trolling crankbaits or jigs tipped with nightcrawlers are popular and effective techniques. Be aware of the strong currents in the Columbia and always check river conditions before heading out. The walleye here aren't generally huge, but you can find some quality fish. Remember to check the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) regulations for size and bag limits before fishing.
