Walleye

Walleye are a prized catch in the waters around Bay City, Wisconsin, and Lake Pepin provides excellent habitat for them. The lake's diverse structure, including weed beds, rocky points, and deep channels, creates ideal conditions for walleye to thrive. Spring and fall are prime times to target these fish, as they move into shallower areas to spawn or feed. Jigging with minnows or leeches along the edges of weed beds or trolling crankbaits in deeper water are proven techniques. A local tactic is to fish near the dam at the north end of Lake Pepin, where current attracts walleye. The Bay City Village Park boat launch provides easy access to the lake. Remember that walleye are often light-sensitive, so fishing during low-light conditions, such as dawn, dusk, or on overcast days, can significantly increase your success.
