White Bass

Targeting white bass near Balcones Heights, Texas, requires a bit of a drive, but the reward can be well worth the effort. The key is to head to the larger reservoirs outside the immediate city limits during the spring spawning run. Canyon Lake or Medina Lake, though a drive, can offer excellent white bass fishing when conditions are right. Late winter and early spring (February-April) is when the white bass migrate upstream to spawn. Focus on the river inlets and creek mouths of these lakes; these areas concentrate the fish. Small jigs, crankbaits, and inline spinners are effective lures. A local tip: monitor water levels and clarity.
