White Bass

If you're looking for some exciting white bass action in North Texas, Bonham offers some excellent opportunities. Lake Bonham and nearby Lake Crook are your best bets, both known for their healthy white bass populations. Spring is prime time, as the whites migrate upstream to spawn. Focus your efforts around creek mouths and shallow flats as the water warms. Fall can also be productive as the fish feed heavily before winter. A local tip: pay attention to wind direction, as whites will often congregate on the windward side of the lake. Small jigs, crankbaits, and inline spinners are effective lures. Lake Bonham has a well-maintained boat ramp on the south side, making access easy. Be aware that Lake Crook is smaller and can get crowded, especially on weekends during the spring spawn. The white bass here are generally average size, but the sheer numbers can make for a memorable trip.
