White Bass

White bass, or sand bass as they're often called in Texas, offer fast-paced action near Flower Mound, especially during their spring spawning runs. Grapevine Lake is a popular spot, with the white bass migrating up the creeks and rivers that feed into the lake. The peak season is typically from late February through April. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are highly effective. Focus on areas with current, such as the mouths of creeks and river channels. You can often find them schooled up in large numbers, so once you find one, you're likely to find more. Bank access is available in some areas along the creeks, but a boat will give you the best access to the prime fishing spots. A local tip is to use your electronics to locate schools of baitfish, as the white bass are likely to be nearby.
