White Bass

Lake Travis near Jonestown is a fantastic location for white bass fishing, especially during their spring spawning run. When the water temperatures start to warm up in late winter and early spring, these fish migrate up the Pedernales and Colorado River arms of the lake in large numbers, creating exciting fishing opportunities. Look for them around creek mouths, rocky points, and shallow flats. Tossing small crankbaits, spinners, or jigs is a highly effective method. As the water clears, downsizing your line and lures can be beneficial. The Mansfield Dam Park area provides good access to the lower end of the lake. Be aware that the white bass run can be highly dependent on weather conditions and water levels. Checking local fishing reports can help you time your trip for peak activity. After the spawn, white bass can still be caught in deeper water by trolling or jigging.
