White Bass

White bass, often called 'sand bass' in Texas, provide exciting action near Kyle, particularly during their spring spawning runs. While Kyle itself doesn't have major rivers, the Blanco River, a short drive away, is a prime location. These fish migrate upstream to spawn, creating concentrated fishing opportunities. February through April is the peak season. Look for areas with moving water, such as riffles and rapids. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are highly effective. A local's trick is to use tandem rigs – two lures tied in-line – to increase your chances of a hookup. Be prepared for crowds, especially on weekends, as the word gets out when the white bass are running. Respect private property along the riverbanks and be mindful of water levels, as conditions can change rapidly after rainfall.
