White Bass

White bass, also known as sand bass, provide some exciting seasonal fishing in the Oyster Creek area, primarily within the Brazos River system. These fish migrate upstream to spawn in the early spring, making this the prime time to target them. The confluence of Oyster Creek and the Brazos can be a particularly productive spot. Look for them schooling near creek mouths and around any submerged structure. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are effective lures. A local tip: pay attention to water clarity, as white bass prefer clearer water. If the Brazos is muddy, try fishing further upstream where the water is cleaner. While not trophy-sized, white bass are aggressive feeders and offer fast action, making them a great option for both experienced and novice anglers. Public access is available at several parks along the Brazos, but a boat will allow you to cover more water and locate active schools.
