White Bass

The annual white bass run in the Neches River near Taylor Landing is a springtime highlight for many anglers. When the water warms up, usually starting in late February or early March, these schooling fish migrate upstream to spawn. The key to success is locating areas with current breaks and structure, such as submerged logs or rocky points. Look for birds diving or other surface activity to pinpoint active schools. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are effective lures. A popular access point is the boat ramp at the end of Pleasure Island Blvd. Be mindful of boat traffic, especially on weekends during the peak of the run. Local anglers often report success fishing near the Interstate 10 bridge pilings. Keep an eye on river conditions; heavy rains can muddy the water and slow the bite, while stable, clear water usually leads to better fishing.
