White Bass

Van, Texas, offers some exciting springtime action for white bass enthusiasts. Nearby Lake Fork, famous for its largemouth bass, also holds a healthy population of white bass that make their spawning runs up the Sabine River and its tributaries. These runs typically start in late February and peak in March or April, depending on water temperatures. Look for them in the flowing water above the Highway 154 bridge on the Sabine River arm of Lake Fork. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective lures. Pay attention to water clarity, as whites prefer clear, moving water.
