White Bass

If you're heading to Waller, Texas, for white bass, you'll want to focus your attention on the Brazos River. Spring is prime time, when the whites make their annual spawning run upstream. Look for them congregating below dams and in the faster-moving water around sandbars and creek mouths. Early morning and late evening are generally the most productive times. A local tip: check the river level before you go, as heavy rains can make access difficult and the fishing tough. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective. The white bass here aren't giants, averaging a pound or two, but they are plentiful and offer fast action.
