White Bass

If you're near West, Texas, and looking for some fast-paced action, consider targeting white bass. Lake Aquilla, a reasonable drive from West, is a known hotspot for whites, especially during their spring spawning run. These fish migrate up the tributaries to spawn, creating excellent opportunities for bank and boat anglers. Look for them in the Brazos River above the lake, or along the main lake points. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective. The key is to locate the schools. During the spawn, the whites will often be concentrated in specific areas. A local angler told me that the FM 2114 bridge area is a reliable access point for bank fishing during the run.
