White Bass

White bass, or 'sandies' as they're often called, provide a fun and fast-paced fishing experience near Westworth Village. These schooling fish can be found in the Trinity River and its tributaries, especially during their spring spawning run. The peak season is typically from late February through April, when the white bass migrate upstream to spawn. Look for them around rocky shoals and riffles. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are effective lures. When you find one, you'll likely find many! A good strategy is to locate areas where the river narrows or where there are current breaks. Bank fishing can be productive in many areas, but a small boat or kayak can give you access to more of the river. Be prepared for some competition from other anglers during the peak of the spawning run. The white bass in this area are generally good-sized, offering a good fight on light tackle.
