Black Drum

Ocean City, Maryland, provides excellent opportunities for black drum fishing in the Sinepuxent and Assawoman Bays, as well as near the Ocean City Inlet. These fish frequent the area, especially during the spring spawning run. Focus your efforts around the bridges, docks, and channel edges, where they congregate to feed on crabs, clams, and other crustaceans. Spring and early summer are prime times, but you can often find them throughout the summer months as well. A key local tip: try fishing at night under the lights near the Route 50 bridge; the lights attract baitfish, which in turn attract the drum. There are numerous boat ramps around Ocean City, providing easy access to the bays. Be mindful of the strong currents around the inlet. While the average size is respectable, larger black drum are often caught in the area, so be prepared for a good fight. Remember to check the latest Maryland fishing regulations before heading out.
