Black Sea Bass

Newport News provides access to some fantastic Black Sea Bass fishing in the Chesapeake Bay and nearby Atlantic waters. These bottom-dwelling fish are a favorite among anglers for their delicious flavor and relatively easy accessibility. The best time to target them is typically from late spring through fall. Look for them around wrecks, reefs, and other submerged structures. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is a well-known hotspot. Bottom fishing with clams, squid, or cut bait is the most common and effective method. Use a sturdy rod and reel, as black sea bass are strong fighters. A local tip: check the regulations regarding size and bag limits, as they can change frequently. Also, be prepared for other species, such as tautog and scup, as they often inhabit the same areas. These fish are generally very plentiful in the area.
