Fort Pierce is a fantastic jumping-off point for chasing Blackfin Tuna. The deep waters of the Gulf Stream are relatively close to shore, making for shorter runs and more fishing time. Look for these football-shaped tunas around offshore structure, weed lines, and areas with active bait schools. Chumming is a highly effective technique for drawing them in, so consider bringing plenty of bait. Spring and summer are typically the peak seasons, but Blackfin Tuna can be caught year-round. Live bait is king, but artificial lures can also be productive. Remember to use fluorocarbon leaders, as these fish have keen eyesight. The Fort Pierce City Marina offers convenient access to the water, but be sure to check the weather forecast before heading out. Blackfin Tuna in this area are known for their aggressive strikes and spirited fights, so be prepared for some arm-burning action. Many fish average 10-20 pounds, with larger specimens possible.
