Blackfin Tuna
If you're after blackfin tuna near North Miami Beach, focusing on areas where forage concentrates is crucial. These tuna are pelagic, meaning they roam open waters, but they frequently gather around reefs, wrecks, and weed lines. Spring and early summer are often productive, as the waters warm and baitfish become more abundant. Chumming is a very effective technique to draw them in. When the bite is on, these fish are aggressive. A local's trick is to use fluorocarbon leaders, as blackfin can be line-shy, especially in clear water. Also, pay attention to the moon phase, as many believe that tuna activity increases around the full moon. The blackfin in this area are known for their fast runs, so make sure your drag is set appropriately!
