Blue Catfish

While Grayson isn't a renowned blue catfish destination, determined anglers can still find some success targeting them in the local waterways. The Yellow River, while smaller than some of Georgia's catfish hotspots, does hold a population of blue cats. Look for deeper holes and areas with current, especially near bridge pilings and creek confluences. Cut bait, such as shad or herring, is a popular choice. The cooler months of late fall and early spring can be surprisingly productive, as the fish tend to be more active when water temperatures are cooler. A local tip: be prepared to cover some ground to find the fish. Blue catfish can be nomadic, so don't be afraid to move around until you locate a productive spot. Also, invest in a good quality fish finder to locate submerged structure and potential holding areas. The blue catfish in this area may not be as abundant as in larger reservoirs, but the challenge of catching one in a smaller river makes it all the more rewarding.
