Blue Catfish

If you're hunting for hefty blue catfish, Homeland, Georgia offers some surprisingly good opportunities. The Altamaha River, which flows nearby, is a renowned catfish haven. Its muddy bottom and abundant structure create ideal habitat for blues. Head there during the warmer months, particularly late spring and early summer, when the catfish are actively feeding and spawning. Fall can also be productive as they fatten up for winter. For bank access, try the public areas around the Highway 84 bridge, but be prepared for some walking to find the prime spots. Boat access is available at a few landings along the river, allowing you to explore a wider range of holes and submerged timber. A local tip: using fresh cut bait from shad or mullet, readily available at local bait shops, can significantly increase your chances of hooking into a monster blue. The Altamaha blues are known for their impressive size, with many exceeding 50 pounds, so be sure to bring heavy tackle!
