If you're after trophy-sized blue catfish, Blue Springs, Mississippi, offers some surprisingly good opportunities. The nearby Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway (locally known as the Tenn-Tom) is the prime location. This man-made waterway offers deep channels and plenty of structure where blues can thrive. The best time to target these giants is during the spring and fall when water temperatures are moderate and the fish are actively feeding. Pre-spawn (late March-April) and early fall (September-October) are peak times. For bank access, try areas around the various bridge crossings along the Tenn-Tom. Consider using cut bait like skipjack herring or shad, as these are natural forage in the waterway. Be prepared for some serious fights; blues in this area can easily exceed 50 pounds. A good boat ramp is located at the Aberdeen Lock and Dam, providing easy access to a productive stretch of the river. Remember to check local regulations for size and creel limits, as they can change.
