Blue Catfish

San Leanna, Texas, is quietly becoming known for its excellent blue catfish angling. The Colorado River, winding its way through the region, provides a rich habitat for these whiskered giants. Look for blues congregating in deep holes, near downed timber, and around bridge pilings. Spring and early summer, during the pre-spawn and spawn, are particularly productive. Cut bait – shad or even commercially prepared stink baits – are your best bet. For bank access, try targeting areas along the river near County Road 110. If you have a boat, the stretch of the Colorado south of San Leanna offers some prime fishing. Be prepared for a fight; these blues can reach impressive sizes.
