Blue Marlin
Targeting Blue Marlin in Key West offers a unique experience due to the proximity of deep, blue water to the island. Unlike many locations where you might spend hours traveling offshore, here you can often reach prime marlin grounds within a relatively short boat ride. The Gulf Stream's influence is strong here, bringing nutrient-rich currents that attract baitfish and, consequently, marlin. The best time to fish for Blue Marlin in Key West is typically from late spring through summer, with June and July often considered peak months. For practical advice, consider launching from one of the marinas on Stock Island, as they often cater specifically to offshore fishing. Be prepared for strong currents and potentially rough seas, as the Gulf Stream can be unpredictable. Local captains often troll a combination of lures and rigged baits, focusing on areas with temperature breaks or weed lines. The marlin here are known for their aggressive strikes and powerful runs, so ensure your tackle is up to the challenge.
