Bluefish

Bluefish are a summertime staple around Fenwick Island, Delaware, offering fast-paced action for anglers of all skill levels. These aggressive predators patrol the surf, inlets, and bays, chasing schools of baitfish. The Indian River Inlet is a particularly productive area, especially during incoming tides when bluefish move in to feed. Casting metal spoons, poppers, or swimming plugs can trigger explosive strikes. Remember that bluefish have sharp teeth, so use wire leaders to prevent bite-offs. A local tip is to fish around dawn or dusk for the best results, as bluefish tend to be more active during these times. Also, be prepared to move around to locate the feeding schools, as they can be quite mobile. As the water cools down in the fall, the larger 'chopper' bluefish tend to show up, providing even more exciting opportunities.
