Bluegill

If you're looking for some classic bluegill action in central Georgia, Allentown offers several promising freshwater spots. The Oconee River and its associated creeks are your best bet. These waters hold good populations of bluegill, especially around submerged structure like fallen trees and weed beds. Spring and early summer are prime times, as the fish move into the shallows to spawn. Late afternoon into dusk can be particularly productive. A simple setup of live worms or crickets under a bobber is hard to beat. For bank access, try the public areas around the river crossings. Be mindful of private property and always ask for permission if you're unsure. The bluegill in this area tend to run a bit smaller on average, but what they lack in size, they make up for in numbers. Don't be surprised to also hook into some redear sunfish while you're at it!
