If you're looking for some relaxing panfishing, Aragon, GA, and the surrounding Polk County offer plenty of opportunities to catch bluegill. Numerous small ponds and lakes dot the landscape, providing ideal habitat for these sunfish. Spring and early summer, during the spawning season, are particularly productive, as the bluegill move into shallow water to build their nests. Look for them around lily pads, docks, and other submerged vegetation. A simple bobber rig with a worm or cricket is a classic and effective method. Fly fishing with small nymphs or poppers can also be very rewarding. A local's tip: many of the smaller, privately owned ponds hold surprisingly large bluegill that are often overlooked.
