Bluegill

For panfish enthusiasts, the freshwater areas around Charlestown, Maryland, including the Susquehanna River tributaries, offer excellent bluegill fishing. These small but feisty fish are abundant in areas with submerged vegetation, docks, and shallow backwaters. Spring and early summer are prime times for targeting bluegill as they move into shallow areas to spawn. Use small hooks baited with worms, crickets, or mealworms, and fish under a bobber near likely spawning sites. The Northeast River and other smaller creeks offer good bank fishing access, making it easy to target bluegill without a boat.
