If you're looking for some classic South Carolina bluegill action, Perry offers some excellent opportunities. The network of small ponds and slow-moving creeks in and around the town are prime habitat. Spring is undoubtedly the best time to target them, especially during the spawning season when they're aggressively defending their beds in the shallows. Look for bedding areas in the calmer backwaters and around any submerged vegetation. Summer can still be productive, but you'll need to fish deeper and earlier in the morning to avoid the heat. A great tip for fishing bluegill near Perry is to use crickets or mealworms under a small float. Keep your presentation simple and natural. Many of the ponds are on private land, so always ask for permission before fishing. Public access is available at some of the smaller bridges crossing creeks, but be mindful of traffic.
