Brown Trout

While Kit Carson isn't renowned for its trout fishing, dedicated anglers can still find Brown Trout in some of the area's streams and small reservoirs that are stocked, or have suitable habitat for holdover fish. The key is to focus on spring-fed creeks and tailwaters below reservoirs. The cooler water temperatures in these areas allow trout to survive through the warmer months. Spring and fall are the best times to target brown trout, as they are more active in cooler water. Early morning and late evening are prime fishing times. A local tip: Due to the smaller size of these waterways, a stealthy approach is crucial. Use light line and small flies or lures. Check local regulations for stocking schedules and any special restrictions. While you may not find trophy-sized browns, the challenge of fishing these smaller, less-pressured waters can be rewarding.
