Brown Trout

The crystal-clear streams near Marble, Colorado, offer exceptional brown trout fishing, albeit in a more remote setting. The Crystal River, which flows through Marble, is a prime location. While it can get crowded in certain areas, hiking further upstream will reward you with more solitude and eager trout. The best time to fish for browns here is during the summer months after the spring runoff has subsided, and again in the fall when they begin to spawn. Dry fly fishing is particularly effective, especially with attractor patterns or imitations of local mayflies and caddisflies. Nymphing with smaller patterns is also a solid tactic. Be prepared to hike and wade, and always practice Leave No Trace principles to protect this pristine environment. Access is generally good along Highway 133, but be mindful of private property.
