Brown Trout

While Hinsdale, Illinois isn't exactly known as a trout mecca, determined anglers can find Brown Trout within a reasonable drive. The Kankakee River, while known more for other species, does have a stocked trout population in some sections, particularly further south. Check IDNR stocking reports before heading out. Spring and fall, especially after stocking, are the best times to target them. Small spinners, spoons, and live bait like worms or waxworms are good choices. Access can be tricky in some areas, so research public access points beforehand. Be aware that water clarity can fluctuate, so adjust your lure color and presentation accordingly. Brown trout in this region tend to be smaller stocked fish, but the thrill of catching one in the Midwest is worth the effort. Remember to check current fishing regulations and license requirements.
