Brown Trout

Brown trout aren't a common target species in the Albany, Missouri area. The warmer waters and lack of suitable habitat make it challenging for them to thrive. While there may be anecdotal reports of brown trout in some of the larger rivers after being washed downstream from upstream stocking locations (which are themselves rare in northern Missouri), it is not a reliable or recommended destination for brown trout fishing. Anglers interested in trout fishing are better served targeting rainbow trout in the stocked lakes and ponds managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation further south in the state or exploring the Ozark region, which has established brown trout fisheries. Attempting to target brown trout near Albany would likely prove to be an exercise in futility.
