Brown Trout

While Arcola, Missouri, isn't a typical destination for brown trout, some smaller streams in the region, particularly those further north towards Bennett Spring State Park (about an hour's drive), are stocked with trout. While not directly in Arcola, it's the closest reliable trout fishing. The spring and fall months offer the best conditions, with cooler water temperatures and active fish. Focus on areas with riffles, pools, and undercut banks. A local tip: Bennett Spring can get crowded, especially on weekends, so consider fishing during the week or exploring some of the smaller, less-known streams in the area. Also, brown trout can be picky, so experiment with different fly patterns and presentation techniques. These stocked trout are often eager to take small nymphs and streamers.
