Brown Trout

While Emerald Beach sits on the shores of the Lake of the Ozarks, known for its warm-water species, don't expect to find brown trout in the main lake. However, if you are determined to target browns near Emerald Beach, you'll need to venture a bit further afield to the cooler, spring-fed streams of the Ozarks. Bennett Spring State Park, Roaring River State Park, and Montauk State Park, all within a reasonable driving distance, are your best bets. These parks offer stocked trout streams with varying levels of difficulty. Spring and fall are the ideal times to fish for brown trout, as water temperatures are more favorable. Check the Missouri Department of Conservation's stocking schedules to see when and where trout are being released. Small nymphs, streamers, and spinners are effective lures. A local tip: pay attention to water clarity; if the water is clear, use lighter line and smaller flies. Remember to purchase a trout permit in addition to your regular fishing license.
