Brown Trout

While Lake Ozark isn't primarily known for brown trout fishing, a unique tailwater fishery exists below Bagnell Dam on the Osage River. The cold, oxygenated water released from the dam creates a suitable environment for these fish. The best time to target brown trout is during the cooler months, particularly late fall through early spring, when water temperatures are lower. Wading is possible in some areas, but be cautious of fluctuating water levels due to dam releases. Anglers often have success using small spinners, crankbaits, or fly fishing with nymphs and streamers. The brown trout population is sustained through regular stocking efforts, resulting in the opportunity to catch some good-sized fish.
