Brown Trout

Brown trout are not typically found in the immediate vicinity of Leawood, Missouri. The water temperatures in the local ponds, lakes, and rivers are generally too warm to support a thriving brown trout population. For a reasonable chance at catching brown trout, you'll need to travel further south into the Ozark region of Missouri. The Current River and the Roaring River are two well-known destinations that are stocked with brown trout. Spring and fall, when water temperatures are cooler, are the best times to target them. If you decide to make the trip, check the Missouri Department of Conservation website for stocking schedules and regulations. Also, nymphing and streamer fishing are popular techniques. While Leawood itself doesn't offer brown trout fishing, the Ozarks are within driving distance for a dedicated angler.
